Teaching for Understanding: Understanding VS Facts
Teaching for Understanding is about being able to make predictions, not only explain or recite facts. You have to be able to predict. We are teaching knowledge in chunks. Meaningful understanding needs to be nurtured. We need to stop teaching students memorization techniques simply to pass a test. Knowledge students gain in school should be easily and readily available to be applied in other contexts.
